Transformation - Part II

J'ai eu l'honneur d'être invitée par L'UAAF, Union des Artistes Asiatiques en France, à participer à une résidence d'artistes au Dagao Art District de Chengde (China) en septembre 2019. Le travail présenté ici en deux parties est celui de cette résidence. Les photographies seront exposées à Chengde jusqu'à fin décembre 2019 dans le cadre de l'exposition "URBAN ART". Les chantiers de construction étant omniprésents en Chine et faisant partie du quotidien de tous les chinois, je me suis orientée vers un travail présentant des éléments de ces chantiers sous l'angle de la transformation.

La photographie est à la fois un moyen d’enregistrer le réel qui nous entoure, un fragment, un échantillon du panorama visuel que la vie nous offre à chaque instant. Mais aussi, grâce aux possibilités du numérique, un moyen de sublimer la matière, de la transformer pour proposer une autre vision, suggérer une relation intime de tous les composants et la mutation des éléments vers les différents états possibles.
À l’instar d’une tache d’encre la ville s’étend, les artisans de cette extension, hommes et machines sont à l’œuvre. Leur univers est un projet mais aussi de la matière. Terre, métal, pierre, eau, sable, plastique, tissu… Leur environnement immédiat est une installation précaire, aléatoire, mouvante, en voie d’organisation. Une installation contemporaine dont tous les éléments sont pour moi l’essence même de « l’Urban Art ».

Transformation - Part II

I had the honour to be invited by UAAF, Union of Asian Artists in France, to participate in an artists' residency at the Dagao Art District of Chengde (China) in September 2019. The work presented here in two parts is that of this residency. The photographs will be on display in Chengde until the end of December 2019 as part of the "URBAN ART" exhibition. As construction sites are omnipresent in China and part of the daily life of all Chinese people, I have worked on elements of these sites from the perspective of transformation.

Photography is both a means of recording the reality that surrounds us, a fragment, a sample of the visual panorama that life offers us at any given moment. But also, thanks to the possibilities of digital technology, a means of sublimating matter, of transforming it to propose another vision, of suggesting an intimate relationship of all the components and the mutation of the elements towards the different possible states.
Like an ink stain, the city is expanding, the craftspeople behind this extension, men and machines, are at work. Their universe is a project but also a material. Earth, metal, stone, water, sand, plastic, fabrics... Their immediate environment is a precarious, random, shifting and evolving installation in the process of being organized. A contemporary installation in which all the elements are for me the very essence of "Urban Art".
