About
Valerie Chauffour lives in Paris.
Raised around planes thanks to her father, she destined herself to a career in aviation very early on.
She became a glider pilot as early as age 16. Unfortunately, her education goals were thwarted by a mathematics teacher and she finally attended a business school in Strasbourg, France. Her school allowed her to get to know Air France from the inside through summer jobs as a flight attendant. Talking to pilots, she realized there was still a way she could become a pilot. She thus followed and passed a stringent self-training program in order to get hired by Air France.
She also discovered photography during her academic years. She bought her first film SLR during a stopover in Tokyo. This marked the beginning of a new passion, which naturally led her into travel photography.
Throughout her career as an airline pilot, Valerie enjoyed atmospheres, landscapes and encounters with other cultures. Over the years, her eye got keener and her interest for modern and contemporary art deepened. Photography came to occupy a major place in her life.
In 2015, she decided to fully devote herself to photography and resigned from her job as an Airbus A320 Captain.

Valérie Chauffour vit à Paris.
Au contact des avions dès son plus jeune âge grâce à son père, elle se destine très tôt à une carrière aéronautique.
Elle devient pilote de planeur dès l’âge de 16 ans. Ses projets d’études pour devenir pilote sont malheureusement contrariés par un professeur de math et ce sont finalement des études de commerce qu’elle entreprendra à Strasbourg. Cette école lui permettra de découvrir la Compagnie Air France de l’intérieur par le biais de jobs d’été en tant qu’hôtesse de l’air. Au contact des pilotes elle réalise qu’elle peut encore tenter de faire ce métier. Mais ce sera par une formation autodidacte, qu’elle réussit, elle devient ainsi pilote à Air France.
Les années d’études sont aussi celles de la découverte de la photographie. Au cours d’une escale à Tokyo elle achète son premier réflexe argentique. Début d’une nouvelle passion naturellement orientée vers la photographie de voyage.
Tout au long de sa carrière de pilote de ligne Valérie va s’imprégner d’ambiances, de paysages et de rencontres avec la culture de « l’autre ». Son œil se forge, son intérêt pour l’art moderne et l’art contemporain s’approfondit au fil des années. La photographie finit par tenir une place prépondérante dans sa vie. En 2015 elle décide de s’y consacrer pleinement et change de métier .
